![]() Illusion's games ends up with a huge amount of mods which allowed you to do. While Illusion's base games are not super mod friendly, the community would make SDK so that people can easily contribute to the game: new pieces of clothing, new items, new animation, etc. I'm not sure where you're pulling those terms but based on what I know about Illusion's stuff, I can say that their games were not available in the West for the longest time which gave rise to pirating their stuff being the only way to get game such as Honey Select. I honest to God wish the west would take its head out of its ass and start making games like Honey Select, Koikatsu, Custom Order Maid, etc instead of those lame assed visual novels where the chicks all look the same and you can’t control the action, the camera angles, etc. ![]() When they finally released Honey Select in English a few years ago, they botched the sale by limiting it to one specific hentai website (Fakku) in a bizarre exclusivity deal and the version they put up for sale was so out of date that all of the bread and butter mods needed for the best mods to work were incompatible with it. When I found out about Honey Select, I became the real life “Shut up and take my money!” meme but they weren’t available outside of Japan so I sailed the high seas and installed fan made patches and translations of it. Not to mention the fact that they dragged their heels when it came to releasing their games outside of Japan (which I totally understand because CNN did a moral outrage hit piece on them in the early 2000’s). The games were pricy with once a year discounts and they weren’t very modder friendly. Sad to hear but like others said, they did it to themselves. I agree that the piracy of their products was common, but it was common because again, their product wasnt worth to be bought.ĪA2 was a sale success iirc because it was a amazing game, not just a empty sandbox. They preferred to keep their circlejerk until their downfall. Seriously, what was so hard about developing a cool world with a silly story in a decent engine? What was so hard about repeating the formula of successes like AA2 instead of recreating Honey Select over and over again? What was so hard about copying the games that are already successful and putting their budget into action? In other words, every new game is nothing more than a new studio for the screenshot fanatics. No wonder the communities of the new games just keep taking screenshots in the studio. The last REAL game from Illusion was Artificial Academy 2, everything after that was just trash, more of the same: empty sandboxes with absolutely nothing to do, just generic as any porn video. Lets be honest, the major reason is because their products was shit.
